Dog Shampoo and Harmful Chemicals

Dog Shampoo reactions and irritations harmful chemicals

Heading down to the local pet store or supermarket to purchase a nice Dog Shampoo do we really take any notice of the long phased words and what they mean are they harmful and what are the long term effects we usually look at the Brand and never really research reviews or recommendations we tend to go for price smell and if it says hypoallergenic or natural we buy it right !

Here’s some Chemicals to watch out for in Dog Shampoo

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate :  SLS can cause dry skin and irritation can strip the skin from natural oils based with sugar and coconut commonly used in body washes and skin cosmetics, this is the chemical that makes the bubbly effect,

Sulphates including sodium laureth Sulfate (SLES) are commonly used can cause Dry skin and itchy irritations flaky skin. Ocular tests suggest in an acute study 10% Sodium Lauryl Sulfate caused corneal damage, if not irrigated, or if irrigation was delayed. (SLES)  products containing 5.1% Sodium Lauryl Sulfate caused mild irritation, and products containing 21% detergent were severely irritating with no rinse, and mildly irritating when rinsed. Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate solutions containing 1.25%-27.4% detergent showed increasing of irritation to the skin and hair follicles increasing the concentration with rinsing decreased irritation. So what this is really saying is small amounts are safe avoid eyes, and rinse well.

Ethanolamines

Ethanolamine common name monoethanolamine or (MEA) in order to be distinguished from diethanolamine (DEA) and Triethanolamine (TEA) detergents, emulsifiers, polishes, pharmaceuticals, corrosion inhibitors, although this can give the creamy texture and foaming agent (TEA) when you see preservatives this maybe on the label under these names

Bromopol, Doazolidinyl urea DMDN Hydantoin Imidazolidinyl urea Quaternuim-7,15,-31, -61, = Nitrogen or Nitrosamines, Carcinogenic common toxic effect on organs and reproductive  meaning chemicals, including benzene, beryllium, asbestos, vinyl chloride, and arsenic are known human carcinogens known to be the cause of cancer in Humans

Sodium hydroxymethyglycinate another formaidehyde these release small amounts of chemical over time causing skin problems later after use also known as a carcinogen so watch out for these hidden preservatives.

Sodium Benzoate non toxic on its own the compound can change when citric or ascorbic acids are added like vitamin C, now can become Benzene a carcinogenic chemical side effects blood disorders and associated with Leukemia.

So in the conclusion anything that says Soduim Ammonium MEA DEA TEA or anything that falls under the Ethano- category you can assure yourself you in for some health problems later

Not all products will say if Sulfates are added manufacturers by law are not enforced to describe them on products depends on the protocols of the manufacturers and there hasn’t been sufficient studies to analysis the quantity added

it is best to take note of what’s on the label even the smallest print can hide so much damage we have to deal with later, So keep this in mind when purchasing your next Dog Shampoo and who you purchase from

A Homemade remedy of using household cleaners or Skin care cosmetics should be cautioned as alot of our own skin care products contain Alcohol based products Sulphates maybe removed in Human Shampoo but there’s always other sneaky chemicals in there as well Sodium C-14-16 oldefer sulfante this causes the ultra bubbly effect not good for colored hair so why would you use this on your Dog to strip out all the oils and possibly the natural coat color.

I recommend if you can educate yourself on harmful chemicals in products and do your best to avoid purchasing them search for natural remedies if possible although more expensive the long term health effects may advance your pets years in life and health.

People wonder why is a Dog bath so expensive and this is why the Salon or Groomer is diligent in what they purchase for your pet and do try to avoid all the harmful chemicals but if your in doubt ask about the products and check out the ingredients yourself.
